STEM

                  What is STEM?

                  S - Science

                  T - Technology

                  E - Engineering

                  M - Math

STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education. PTAA focuses on these areas together not only because the skills and knowledge in each discipline are essential for student success, but also because these fields are deeply intertwined in how students learn most effectively and the fastest growing areas in real world careers. STEM is an interdisciplinary and applied approach that is coupled with hands-on, problem-based learning.

In Science Class PTAA students use STEMscopes™ curriculum to engage in and explore science concepts. STEMscopes™ is a comprehensive online curriculum program that provides numerous hands-on inquiry activities, including intervention and acceleration resources.

It is written for teachers by teachers and is maintained at the most current level. Twin reasons for the success of the program are:

    1. inquiry-based, hands-on scientific exploration for student, and

    2. teacher training/development.

All PTAA science teachers are STEM certified.

While students interact with stem phenomena they are developing the skills and knowledge for tomorrow's careers

Students also have access to online material online at home supporting their learning in class. Teachers will provide individual login information to each student.

STEMscopes™ also offers parents access to reference and practice material to support children with their learning at home. To access the site, parents need to use the student login as well. To find out more, contact your child's teacher for login and site link information.
